The Beatitudes in Today's Society?
The Beatitudes?
So, I need a song, quote (please list the author) poem (list the author please), or prayer (author please) that delivers the same message as or reflects upon the beatitude.
Just in case you don’t know, below are the first half of each of the eight beatitudes and a brief description of what they kind of mean.
1. "Blessed are the poor in spirit…"
The poor in spirit are those who realize how dependent they are on others for the blessings in their lives.
2. "Blessed are those who mourn…"
Christ especially praises the mourning of sorrow over the loss, by death or separation, of someone who is loved. It is proof that we have loved others just as God has loved us.
3. "Blessed are the meek…"
Meekness is love when faced with provocation; it is acting toward others with charity and humility, without sharpness, without contempt, and without ever becoming impatient with their shortcomings.
4. "Blessed are those who hunger…"
Those that hunger and thirst for what is right are those who desire justice but have not yet received it.
5. "Blessed are the merciful…"
The merciful are those who forgive injuries and pardon those who offend them. Mercy is love shown to the unlovable, and charity to those who have been unjust and ungrateful.
6. "Blessed are the pure in heart…"
The pure in heart are those whose intentions and motivations are always good. They always try to do the loving thing and avoid actions based on hate, envy, anger, etc.
7. "Blessed are the peacemakers…"
Peacemakers are those who love peace and labour to establish peace all around them; they try to heal discord between people and especially seek to reconcile sinners who are estranged from God.
