 Lord of War (2005)
IMDB rating: 7.70
Plot: This film charts the rise and fall of Yuri Orlov, from his early days in the early 1980s in Little Odessa, selling guns to mobsters in his local neighbourhood, through to his ascension through the decade of excess and indulgence into the early 90s, where he forms a business partnership with an African warlord and his psychotic son. The film also charts his relationship through the years with his younger brother, his marriage to a famous model, his relentless pursuit by a determined federal agent and his inner demons that sway between his drive for success and the immorality of what he does.

Why do you suppose the bible God endorses war?
And by this I’m thinking of the many religion inspired battles of the Crusades, and this verse: ‘The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.’ Exodus 15:3
So, how can the prince of peace also simultaneously be a God of war (rather like Ares)? Especially when considering war doesn’t create peace; peace does.
After all, ‘an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.’-Ghandi
Because the Jews of the time endorsed war and got tired of getting their asses beat. So they started writing about their own god being tougher than any other god.

But He doesn’t: …murder (the Greek word phonos also means slaughter, and that means the killing of people in large numbers, as in battle), strife (war is that), deceit (waging war based on a Bush confession of "faulty intelligence" that he said a couple years ago is that)… violent (war is that), proud (proud to be American who wants to be the bully of the world dominating the planet to make everyone obey us or die is being proud), boasters, inventors of evil things (like an atomic bomb on Japan in 1945 that slaughtered entire cities or a bomb killing or injuring the innocent like McCain could have done in Vietnam – with 23 bombing missions he likely murdered the innocent)… undiscerning (Iraq war based off of "faulty intelligence" is that), untrustworthy (a bogus war that was lied about to get us into makes the leaders that), unloving (slaughtering people with bombs is that, or kicking in the door with the rifle in hand shooting first and asking questions later is that. They have murdered innocent women and children in the house), unforgiving (war sure is that), unmerciful (war is that too); who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death (spiritual death in hell), not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them – Romans 1:28-32. If you are spiritually inclined to hear what God says through His word, you should be able to understand that those who approve of war deserve spiritual death in hell just because they approve of it. It’s best to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to heaven or hell as your destiny. So stop supporting war.
Jesus said, "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled." – Matthew 24:6. So the war makers are the trouble makers.
Jesus said, "You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on the right cheek, turn the other to him also… You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven… Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." – Matthew 5:38 48. That’s against all the people who want to use the OT to justify war = there’s a new way in the NT for us to live by when we are specifically told so, especially by the Lord.
Jesus said, "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul, but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." – Matthew 10:28.
Jesus said, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself (lose sight of one’s self and one’s own interest), and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what proifit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his own soul?" – Matthew 16:24-26. It sure doesn’t look like kill them before they MAY kill you. Since we are to take up our cross and follow Christ, then we should die, not kill. Following Christ means we die, because that is what He did. When He was arrested and one of His followers cut the ear off of one of the enemy’s head, Christ said put the sword away and He healed the man. He could have called a host of angels to fight for Him, but He willingly died. He did not kill. If you want to follow Christ you will not kill. You will go ahead and let them kill you. Gaining a worldly advantage by killing the enemy in war will do you no good in the afterlife because it will make your soul lost and headed for hell. The exchange to give in comparison to that is giving your life.
Repay no one evil for evil… Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord – Romans 12:17-19. Now someone might refer to Romans chapter 13, and I will agree. But the USA is not the government of the world to where every other country has to be subject to obey us or die. I have no problem with the police carrying guns to enforce the law. It is like the "for he does not bear the sword in vain" (Romans 13:4). But there is a big difference between carrying a gun to enforce the law by the governing authorities, and a country going to another country and taking it over or using bombs on them for revenge.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…

The difference is historical context.
In the Old Testament, the God of Israel is indeed seen as "The LORD of hosts" or armies, and it’s true that God did fight for the nation of Israel. Part of this was due to Israel’s rather small size, relative insignificance among other, more well known peoples, and the location along the Mediterranean sea. Also we have to remember that Israel was fighting for its very existence. Probably every country or city-state or whatever geo-political term or entity in the world has wanted to wipe Israel off the map (does that sound familiar?).
So, God wasn’t seen so much as a "gentle shepherd" but a "mighty God". BTW, when you quoted part of the passage from Isaiah chapter 9, didn’t you see that title for God? God’s power and protection of Israel was legendary. Even Rahab the harlot, back in Joshua’s day, knew that the Hebrews were coming and the Jericho-ites were scared stiff! Read what Rahab told the two spies! Besides, Exodus 5 is in the context of Moses being sent back to Egypt to lead the Israelites to the promised (emphasis added) land. The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt for centuries and some were probably afraid (speculation here) that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob may not have been able to stand against all the gods of Egypt. Further, Egypt was a very strong military power in those days and the Hebrews may have been scared stiff of Egypt’s army. In fact, Josephus in his Antiquities mentions quite a bit about Moses and how Moses was a great military leader himself!
Gandhi’s observation is valid, but he forgot one thing–nobody needs to be the first to take somebody else’s eye or eysesight away.

Realistically, there are some among peoples who cause trouble among nations; at times; aren’t there?
He will cut off all of the wicked from among the assembly and the cities. His Sword will go out from Zion and will bring justice in making war is written.
There is a time for war, a time to build. Al things in God’s time and decisions.
Peace passes understanding in the spiritual realm and has nothing to do with the outside conditions of situations that peoples face concerning war; for He Has Prevailing concerning The Prophecy Scroll as The Acceptable Ransom for the Many. The First born over all of creation and the first born from among the dead for death had no hold on Him and could not keep Him in its grasp.
The Sons of God are Peacemakers, you are correct.
The time for the appearance of the false prophet who goes to war concerning all major empires on the earth and prevails up and over Egypt to the Northern Empire laying hold of all of the wealth of the Empire is coming soon. He will perform signs and wonders in order to deceive the peoples who live on the earth to take the mark of the number of his name as commerce worship to himself along with ten worldwide leaders who confirm a covenant with him for one seven year period. In the middle of the seven year period at 1260 days plus 30 days the abomination that causes desolation will be set up as him sitting in The Temple of God as though greater than God. These trumpets will be poured out upon those who take the mark of the number of his name as written in Revelation seal seven. The total amount of days for his rule comes to 1335 days, not including the gog and magog war preceeding his rise to rulership as priestlike leader.
